<h6>Setting data exchange options</h6>
When you exchange data for the first time, you must specify some startup parameters. For subsequent data exchanges, you can go directly to <a href="actpdata.htp">Performing the data exchange</a> unless you need to change the settings.
<p><b>Note:</b> Set up your data exchange options from your desktop ACT! database. You do not need to perform any action on the HPC device.
<p>
<OL>
<LI>Open the desktop ACT! database with which you want to send or exchange.
<LI>From the File menu, choose Data Exchange > Link. The Link dialog box appears.
<LI>You can set options in the Link group box to send data, receive data, or to do both by selecting one of the following:

<LI>Click Send to send data from your desktop ACT! database to the HPC for the first time, or to send specified data to the HPC from the desktop database
<LI>Click Receive to send data from the HPC to the desktop database
<LI>Click Send and Receive to exchange desktop and HPC data
</UL>
<LI>Click Setup. The first panel of the Link Setup Wizard appears.
<LI>Select the Windows CE link option from the drop-down list.
<LI>If you no longer need the contacts in your existing ACT! for Windows CE database, you can delete the database from your HPC before you send your desktop ACT! database to your HPC. Click Options. The Options dialog box appears.
<p><b>Note:</b> Before you delete your existing ACT! for Windows CE database, close ACT! for Windows CE on your HPC.
<p>
<LI>(Optional) Click Delete Database Before Downloading to completely remove your ACT! for Windows CE database from your HPC.
<LI>Click Next. The next link panel asks you to specify which information to send to the HPC database.
<LI>In the Contact Selection group box, specify which contact records you want to send to the HPC database. If you are sending your desktop database to your HPC for the first time, you may want to select the All Contacts option. The number of contacts you can send is limited by the disk space available on your HPC. To save space on your HPC, you can select the Current Lookup or From Selected Group option.
<LI>In the Data Selection group box, specify which Notes/History and Activities you want to send to the HPC database. If you are sending your desktop database to your HPC for the first time, you may want to select All Entries. To save space on your HPC, you can select one of the Last x Entries. If you do not want to send Notes/History or Activity data, select None.
<LI>Select Field Labels in the Additional Items to Send group box to send the field labels used in your desktop ACT! database to the HPC database.
<LI>Click Next. The next link panel asks you to select a date range for the contacts that you want to send and receive. The date refers to the date that the contact record was last modified.
<LI>In the Send group box, specify the date range of the contact records you want to send to the HPC database. You can choose to send all contact records, send contact records that were added or modified since the last time you linked, or send only contact records added or modified within a certain date range.
<p>When you first send your ACT! database to your HPC, you are only sending information and do not need to specify Receive options. Skip to step 15 to continue.
<p><b>Note:</b> The first time you link, the Since Last Link option includes all contact records. Subsequent links using the Since Last Link option will take significantly less time to perform than the first link.
<p>
<LI>In the Receive group box, specify which contact records you want to receive from the HPC database. You can choose to receive all contact records, receive contact records that were added or modified since the last time you linked, or receive only contact records that were added or modified within a certain date range.
<LI>Click Finish. The Link dialog box reappears, indicating that you have completed the setup procedure and are ready to exchange data with the HPC.
<p>To send your desktop ACT! database for the first time or to exchange current data, go to step 16.
<p>To complete your setup and exchange data at a later time, skip to step 17.
<LI>Click Link. The data exchange may take some time, especially if you are sending large quantities of data.
<LI>Click Done. Your setup is complete, and you are now ready to send and receive data.
